Dr. Piper is a life-long resident of Blair County.  He graduated from Hollidaysburg Area High School in 1970.  He then attended the Pennsylvania State University and received his Bachelor of Science degree in 1974 majoring in Animal Science.  He entered veterinary school at the University of Pennsylvania and graduated with honors in 1978.  After graduation Dr. Piper worked for the Conestoga Animal Hospital in Ephrata, Pennsylvania for approximately 1 ½ years.  He then returned to the Altoona area and established the Lakemont Veterinary Clinic, Inc. in 1979.  

Dr. Piper now resides in Hollidaysburg with his wife Rebecca.  They have 3 sons, Benjamin, Tyler and Gifford.  Benjamin and Tyler are engineers and work and reside locally.  Gifford is currently attending optometry school in Philadelphia.  

Presently Dr. Piper has a 14-year-old diabetic feline named Felice and a 3-year-old African Grey parrot named Jack who is quite the chatterbox.  

Dr. Piper enjoys fly fishing, gardening and spending time in the outdoors.  He is a deacon at the First Presbyterian Church of Hollidaysburg and a member of the Pennsylvania Veterinary Medical Association and the American Veterinary Medical Association.
