Dr. Kayla Whitfield was born and raised here in Altoona, PA. She graduated from Altoona Area High School in 2006 and traveled to Chambersburg, PA where she obtained her Bachelor of Science degree in Veterinary Medical Technology with minors in Biology and Chemistry at Wilson College in 2010. She then earned her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine at The Ohio State University in 2014 in Columbus. During veterinary school, Dr. Whitfield completed an externship in Animal Behavior and participated in animal shelter studies focusing on behavior and adoption. She graduated with distinction of Excellence in Animal Behavior. After practicing in North Carolina for a year, Dr. Whitfield joined the team at LVC.
Dr. Whitfield loves animal behavior and is interested in consulting and treating a wide variety of behavior concerns and providing low stress handling.
Dr. Whitfield also has a passion for shelter medicine and joined CPHS in the summer of 2017 as a weekly consultant.
Dr. Whitfield lives with her husband, Harold (who is also from Altoona), 2 Dalmatians, a Pitty mix, a no-eyed beagle and 2 cats. In her spare time she and her husband love cycling, spending time at Raystown Lake, and caring for a revolving door of CPHS fosters.
